Châteauneuf du Pape, the centre piece of the Southern Rhône, is an area growing in stature throughout the wine consuming world. Historically the first of France's Appellation Controllee regions, it has long held an important role within French winemaking and never more so than today with a plethora of domaines contributing to a wide range of styles.
Domaine de la Côte de l’Ange is an up and coming estate under the guidance of Jean-Claude Mestre and Yannick Gaspari, who have won praise for their last three vintages, culminating in the superb multi-faceted 2004 vintage, which will reach us later on in the year. It produces a traditional style of wine with the focus on the flavours of the region – liquorice, lavender and broom intermixed with wild fruits and berries, with hints of roasted meats and smoke.
