Domaine Parigot Pere et Fils - Beaune, Burgundy

A real find – affordable Burgundies from an archetypal Burgundy family producer. Better still - a producer that stands head and shoulders above the competition in terms of quality and value for money.

These wines speak volumes about the generations that have preceded – charm, finesse and a real delicacy, with a purity of fruit shining through. A different style of wine than those offered by Alex Gambal, these offer a purity of fruit of the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape, with the influence entirely on the grapes and ‘terroir’ of the region.

The world famous and ancient Burgundy vineyards cover more than 31,500 square km and stretch like a thin finger for 110 km from Chablis in the north, through the Côte de Nuits to the Côte de Chalonnaise, the Mâconnais and Beaujolais, just north of Lyon. The climate is ideal and the soil rich and fertile, the wines strong, well-structured, balanced and very aromatic. The result is 30,000 growers and over 700 different Appellation Contrôlées. The region may be fragmented but with the emergence of some young and dedicated growers and some superb recent vintages, quality is at an all time high.

Savigny-lès-Beaune wine is produced in the commune of Savigny-lès-Beaune in Côte de Beaune of Burgundy. The Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) Savigny-lès-Beaune may be used for red and white wine with respectively Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as the main grape variety. The namne of the appellation is sometimes written simply as Savigny, without the lès-Beaune part. The production consists of slightly over 85 per cent red wine, and slightly less than 15 per cent white wine. There are no Grand Cru vineyards within Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The are 22 climats in Savigny-lès-Beaune classified as Premier Cru vineyards. The wines of these vineyards are designated Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru + vineyard name, or may labelled just Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru, in which case it is possible to blend wine from several Premier Cru vineyards within the AOC.
