My Favourite Red - Fiona Beckett Guardian May 2011

Wine - Bandol 2004 Domaine Gros Nore

impressive Domaine du Gros'Noré 2004 (£19.50, or £39.50 a magnum from The Tasting Room in Bath; 15% abv), which is a thrilling wine with the sort of dark, porty fruit that makes it one of those rare reds that's great with cheese. Once hooked on mourvèdre, I'm afraid there's no going back.

Review: Decanter Magazine Feb 2013

Wine: Speri Sant'Urbano, Valpolicella Classico Superiore 2009

Real breadth: powerful, rich, ripe, plum and black cherry aromas with tobacco and spice. Big, full, richly flavoured dark fruits with balanced acidity. Great finish and length. Plenty of life ahead. Drink 2013 - 2015 (18.5pts / 20)

Review: Decanter Magazine
'Keep calm and carry on' seems to be the motto at the medium- sized, family owned Speri winery based in the village of Pedemonte in the Classico region. On the face of it a traditional operation dating back 150 years, Speri is in fact taking strides towards a sustainable future. It expects the fruit from its 50ha of vineyards to be certified organic from the 2013 vintage and is considering the use of Stelvin closures for its early-drinking Valpolicella.

Its portfolio is sensibly limited to five wines: a deceptively simple but utterly delicious Valpolicella Classico; a Valpolicella Classico Superiore Ripasso that pays homage to the 'super charged Valpolicella' school of thought; an excellent Valpolicella Classico Superiore; plus an Amorone and a small amount of Recioto. Courageously the last two wines are produced in good years only, imposing natural limits on the ripasso numbers. In less favourable years Speri simply makes more Valpolicella.

Review: Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, the world's leading 'wine bible'

Wine: Domaine du Gros Nore - Bandol

Alain Pascal, at Domaine du Gros'Nore, has received high praise (91 points) from the Wine Advocate for his 2004 red Bandol:

Alain Pascal's 2004 is a blend of 80% Mouvedre, 12% Grenache, 5% Cinsault and 2% Carignan and aged for 18 months in oak barrels. A very ripe, lush, prune-scented nose with creme de cassis, kirsch and fig. Has a hedonistic attraction to it. Rich with a lot of Glycerine, very powerful and rather ostentatious but with good acidity cutting through thick layers of sweet black fruits. Persistent, luscious finish. Great length and a great, vivacious Bandol.'

Review: Les Hautes des Granges Roaix-Wine Advocate

Wine: Les Hautes des Granges Roaix 2008, Domaine des Escaravailles

The impressive 2008 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Roaix Les Hautes Granges is not far off the quality of the 2007 version. This high quality, 100% Syrah exhibits plenty of dark berry, smoke, and acacia flowers in its fresh, full-bodied, deep, surprisingly supple, juicy personality. Enjoy it over the next 3-4 years.'
