Succulent, ripe nose of creamy vanilla and pineapples. Rounded and generous palate, offering ripe grapefruits and lemon rind. A judicious use of oak brings depth, texture and nutty characters and helps with the soft finish. Affordable yet Burgundian Chardonnay with a real freshness and elegance. The palate is ripe and rich with butter and spice and the excellent texture of a rich, full finish.

Have with: All crustaceans (crab, shrimp, lobster, crawfish), smoked fish, grilled fish, poultry, pork and creamy cheeses. Its aromatic characteristic will make this wine a good match for spicy and sweet and sour dishes and sushi.

Domaine Auvigue - Macon, Burgundy

Brothers Jean-Pierre and Michel Auvigue are tucked away on the western side of Macon, the bustling industrial centre of the region. The attractive and neat collection of family house, offices and winery nestle down a side track off the main road – a quiet retreat from where this very professional organization export throughout the wine-consuming world .

The domaine produces an amazing range of cuvées, which made it a daunting tasting after a long day spent traveling and wine tasting throughout the region. But the classical white Burgundy, with its depth of flavours, purity of fruit and added complexity, stood head and shoulders above every other domain's wine we'd tasted that day.

The world famous and ancient Burgundy vineyards cover more than 31,500 square km and stretch like a thin finger for 110 km from Chablis in the north, through the Côte de Nuits to the Côte de Chalonnaise, the Mâconnais and Beaujolais, just north of Lyon. The climate is ideal and the soil rich and fertile, the wines strong, well-structured, balanced and very aromatic. The result is 30,000 growers and over 700 different Appellation Contrôlées. The region may be fragmented but with the emergence of some young and dedicated growers and some superb recent vintages, quality is at an all time high.

Pouilly-Fuissé is an appellation (AOC) for white wine in the Mâconnais subregion Burgundy in central France, located in the communes of Fuissé, Solutré-Pouilly, Vergisson and Chaintré. Pouilly-Fuissé has Chardonnay as the only grape variety.

While Pouilly-Fuissé is the best-known part of Mâconnais, there are no Premier Cru vineyards within the AOC, as the local growers at the time the regulations were being drawn up never applied for this. The AOC was created on 11 September 1936. The area used to be known simply as "Pouilly", but when the AOC laws were introduced, it was split into three: Pouilly-Fuissé, Pouilly-Loché and Pouilly-Vinzelles.

Despite the lack of official classification within the AOC, some climats within Pouilly-Fuissé have better reputations than others.
