Light expressive sparkle with a mid-weighted palate - 100% Sauvignon Blanc giving an added depth to a clean finish.

On the outside is an everyday façade, not unlike an old fashioned garage, but it's once you go through the large doors that the romantic part of the domaine emerges. Throughout the Eastern Loire valley, where space is at a premium, vignerons have taken the only action available to them and cut cellars and working space out of the porous rocks into which they have fitted their wineries. It is from one of these cellars, hewn out from the hillside, that Jean Francois Merieau has recently taken on the mantle the traditions of his forefathers.
It was the Sauvignon de Touraine that originally caught our imagination, but his Cabernet Franc based reds, with a percentage of Cot to give added flavours and depth, were a real eye opener, as was the sparkling wine made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc. A delightful sweet Sauvignon, made from late harvested grapes and in very small quantities, is named in homage to Jean Francois's great grandmother ‘Georgina’. This is not a commercial style wine and we are fortunate to be able to offer it on our list.
From its source high up in the Massif Central, the longest river in France begins its meandering 1000 km route first northwards and then to the west and the ocean. Vines along the way produce the greatest diversity of wine styles, from extremely dry to intensely sweet, still to sparkling, and light white to dark ruby. Names include Muscadet in the Nantes region, Pouilly Fume and the intensely flavoured Chinons. Coteaux de Layons and Bonnezeaux produce superb Chenin Blanc wines. We've chosen a fruity Sancerres, Menetou and wines from a very dedicated winemaker, Jacky Merieau.
