Blend of Pinot noir (58%), Chardonnay (39%) and Pinot Meunier (3%) spends extensive time on the yeast sediment giving great depth, flavour and rich yeast character. This sparkling wine, South African's first bottle-fermented bubbly, is a blend of the Champagne grape varieties. It has lovely red berry aromas due to the high percentage of Pinot Noir, with sweet baked apple and a delicious south-dough yeastiness, while the refined creamy mousse refeshes the palate and enhances the zesty citrus and fresh-baked bread flavours
Simonsig was established in 1968 in Stellenbosch, by Frans Malan, Industry visionary and proud descendant of one of the original French Huguenot families to settle the Cape in the 17th century. Today the Estate is run by his three sons and boasts 210 hectares of vines on sandstone and granite soils. Blessed by a Mediterranean climate, the region produces some of the finest wines in the country It is impossible to overstate the influence of Simonsig on the industry.
Their hugely dynamic and innovative nature belies the fundamental essence of their business. It is easy to forget that at the heart of this phenomenon is simply a family owned Winery; but a Winery which has a clear vision of its place, its future and its social responsibilities.
Their Pinotage and Chenin Blanc exemplify the House style. Both are resolutely unoaked and exhibit generous dollops of fruit and structure but stand out for their sheer exuberant drinkability. The family is particularly proud of their Premium range of Single Vineyard wines. These iconic wines are all big and complex yet fruit-driven and accessible, they express their terroir superbly.
Simonsig Estate upholds the legendary status of pioneering wine excellence shaped by the Malan dynasty’s devotion to quality and innovative winemaking. Named after its dramatic views of the Simonsberg Mountain, the estate is ideally situated in Stellenbosch, South Africa’s premier wine region, 45 km east of Cape Town Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot,Pinotage and Chenin Blanc are the stars here.
