Element Merlot is a light, fruity and smooth wine made from Merlot grapes and given a light oak finish. This wine is a perfect compliment to fish, pasta, meat and poultry or just with friends...
100% Merlot, but made in the style of Pinot Noir. Strawberry, slight stalk tones, definite earthy and gamey character. Certainly akin to Beaune with smoke, light body, and light tannin. In fact, this is so Pinot-esque in style they had difficulty in achieving the Côtes de Bourg classification, the powers that be claiming it was too atypical to carry the appellation. Easy-going but absolutely spot-on and decidedly better than many low-priced Merlots or Pinots, offering a very decent level of complexity. 11.5%

Chateau Civrac - Cotes de Bourg
Chateau Civrac is situated in the Bordeaux appellation of Côtes de Bourg, geographically between Pomerol and Margaux. It is a beautiful hilly region of France on the banks of the river Gironde just at the confluence of the Garonne and the Dordogne. The vineyard is 10 hectares in size, comprising one parcel arranged around a central chateau.
Mark Hellyar, is the owner and works full time, although based in Cornwall he travels frequently to Bordeaux, with consultant Olivier Dauga on development and sales.
Two years ago the vineyard was an overgrown garden in the hills of Cotes de Bourg on the rightbank of Bordeaux. Today, the regimented, beautifully maintained vines hold their heads high among the well established vineyards of the region. Taken over 2 years ago by Cornishman, Mark Hellyar and French winemaker Vianney de Tastes, it has been transformed into a top wine producing Chateau. The two have brought together a fusion of the best of the old and new worlds of wine… Jancis Robinson 2008

To the west of France, Bordeaux, set around the Garonne and the Dordogne, has the microclimate created by cool sea breezes and warm land which makes it lush and fertile. Wines include Pomerol, St Emilion, Margaux, Pauillac, St Julien and St Estephe, Graves and Sauternes, but vintages can be unpredictable and expensive wines snapped up by investors. Recent changes however mean Bordeaux winemakers are reverting to traditional methods and the result is better value wines for everyone. We have selected wines from several sub-regions on the 'Right Bank' that demonstrate the wonderful variety available.
Historically the region produced robust and sober wines. More recently the wines are becoming more approachable with the introduction of new wine producers using more fruit driven vinification techniques. Red Côtes de Bourg are garnet in colour and are predominantly based on the Merlot grape, blended with smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Some Chateaux still use Malbec as part of the blend. They can be laid down for ten years or more but can also be drunk young.
A small amount of white wine is made from Ugni Blanc and Colombard grapes. There are around 200 Chateaux producers in the appellation.
