Domaine du Tix - Cotes du Ventoux

Mormoiron en Ventoux - Vaucluse

The vineyard, owned by Marie Pirsch and Philippe Danel, spreads between two villages, literally over shadowed by Mont Ventoux and consists of 5 hectares divided into 5 plots, each with their own individual characteristics. The wines, from Viognier, Syrah and Grenache, are hand made and in very limited quantities - we are very thankful to Alex Gambal for recommending this wonderful winery to us.

A story of real passion and dedication - Marie prepared by hand all 20,000 vines for grafting, changing the original, poor quality vines for those of the Syrah and Viognier - this is a real find and one we will champion to the rooftops.

An area of world famous vineyards which starts south of Lyon at Ampuis and runs down to the Côtes de Provence. Grape types include Grenache, Syrah, Mourvédre, Cinsault, Marsanne and Roussanne and these produce wines of immense pedigree and quality, including the dark purple Côte Rotie wines and the fruity Viognier.

The southern Rhône sub-region has a more Mediterranean climate with milder winters and hot summers. Drought can be a problem in the area, but limited irrigation is permitted. The differing terroirs, together with the rugged landscape which partly protects the valleys from the Mistral, produce microclimates which give rise to a wide diversity of wines. A feature of the cultivation of the region is the use of large pebbles around the bases of the vines to absorb the heat of the sun during the day to keep the vines warm at night when, due to the cloudless skies, there is often a significant drop in temperature.

Red and rosé wines are made from, Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, and Carignan (maximum 30%). Other varieties which may be used to a maximum of 20%.The red wine is distinctly characterised by its aromas of black fruit, spice, and pepper. White wines are produced from Clairette, Bourboulenc, and Grenache Blanc, and Roussane (maximum 30%) A Primeur wine is also produced in all three colours The minimum alcoholic content for all wines is decreed at 11%. The reds, which comprise approximately 80% of the production, are light and fruity. All wines are generally consumed while they are still young.
