Domaine du Gros' Nore - Bandol, La Cadiére d'Azur, Provence

Domaine de Gros' Noré is situated on the outskirts of the picturesque Provencal hilltop village of La Cadière d’Azur, set back from the hustle of the coast. Alain Pascal, the owner of Gros' Noré first produced his own wine in 1997, prior to this the grapes were sold to Chateau de Pibarnon. The vineyards were handed down from his father, Honore, who worked the vineyards but never made his own wine. Alain named his domaine to pay homage to his father, who was called Gros’ Noré, for his imposing stature and calm, who also guided his first steps in the culture of wine, his love of the ground and his passion for wine. A developing domaine with a reputation that is growing year by year. New facilities for entertainment and weddings were finished in 2005.

This is a domaine that has captured our heart with the stunning quality of wine, warmth of welcome and beautiful location. When picking a place to celebrate my 40th birthday this was an obvious choice and many thanks must go to Alain Pascal for a wonderful celebratory meal second to none for the location and the quality of sea food!

Provence (Provençal) wine comes from the French wine-producing region of Provence in southeast France. The Romans called the area nostra provincia ("our province"), giving the region its name. Just south of the Alps, it was the first Roman province outside Italy.

Today the region is known predominately for its rosé wine, though wine critics such as Tom Stevenson believe that region's best wines are the spicy, full-flavoured red wine.

The Bandol wine region, located near the coast east of Marseille and Cassis, is one of Provence's most internationally recognized wine regions. Based around the fishing village of Bandol, west of Toulon it is ideally suited for the late ripening Mourvedre grape which is the major variety of the region. The rosés of Bandol are characterized by spicy and earthy flavors that can resemble the Rhône rosés from Tavel AOC, with some having strawberry notes.
